Life is like a box of chocolates…

Blog title taken from one of the best movies known to man, Forrest Gump.

Packaging has been a sub-journey all its own during this chocolate-making adventure. There are so many options out there, and how does one decide? Better yet, how does one find packaging that fits the specific shape and size of your bars while also providing you with enough space to tell a bit of your company’s story? Not to mention ensuring it keeps everything fresh and contained.

There were only two things I knew about packaging when I started this process:

  1. If I’m going to work toward sustainability and ethical sourcing when it comes to ingredients, I need to do the same with packaging.

  2. It has to have space for some storytelling.

Design-wise, I am very fortunate to have an incredibly gifted friend, Jackson Roberts, who helped me create something simple, yet impactful. As you’ll see in the picture below, he nailed it. If you’re interested in learning more about him or reaching out to see if he might be a good fit for you to work with on some design needs you have, find him on Instagram.

Material-wise, I did my best to come up with relatively sustainable options that won’t cause Echea (or you, the consumer) to break the bank. The outer box is recyclable, and the inner cellophane bag (the part that keeps the chocolate fresh and safe) is compostable.

We are sticking with the triangle theme!

Since the bar is composed of pyramids, we stuck with the theme and added triangles to the packaging. Also, each type of chocolate will have its own color. I present to you milk chocolate, denoted by a lovely rusty, pinkish-red dust color.

Keep an eye out for other bars and colors soon!

While there isn’t any storytelling on the packaging just yet, there will be. The way this little box unfolds, it provides space to share with you the origin of the bar, flavor notes, so many things! I’d be curious to hear what you want to know, what story you’d like to read. For now, though, the space is yours. Yours to write down how the chocolate makes you feel, what you taste, maybe even draw a picture! Let the swirling flavors in the chocolate and the blank canvas of the box ignite creativity within you.

Can hardly wait to see what you create.
